A total of 402 foundations – spread across all Swiss cantons – are listed on StiftungSchweiz that are specifically committed to women. The geographical distribution shows a clear focus on the canton of Zurich with 71 foundations promoting women, followed by the cantons of Geneva with 60 and Vaud with 51 foundations. Almost two thirds of all newly established foundations for women in 2023 are based in Geneva.

In addition to national activities, Swiss foundations also support women and mothers globally. There are 345 foundations for women active throughout Europe, 97 foundations in Africa and 95 in Asia. In developing and emerging countries in particular, women’s foundations play a crucial role in promoting education, health and economic independence for the female population.
