With the new statistics panel at StiftungSchweiz, funders and nonprofits actively contribute to data-based philanthropy and in return receive well-founded insights into their own organization. The blog post shows you how to participate in the statistics panel in just a few simple steps.
StiftungSchweiz invites foundations and nonprofits to share their most important key figures for the new statistics panel. Take just 10 minutes of your time – your information will be included in a confidential and anonymized, scientifically supported evaluation. By participating, you will help to make the diversity of the funding sector visible and identify developments at an early stage – and at the same time receive individual comparative data for your organization.
Your advantages at a glance
Compare: Find out how your organization stands in relation to others.
Learning: Identify funding gaps, trends and developments.
Strengthen the sector: Contribute to the transparency and visibility of philanthropy in Switzerland.
How participation works
1. register for free or update your profile
If your organization does not yet have a profile on StiftungSchweiz, you can create a login free of charge and register your organization (e.g. as an association) or claim it (e.g. for existing foundations – these are already listed in our directory).
2. fill in the statistics section in the profile

Complete the statistics in the organizational profile. These are the following seven key figures from the last three years:
– Assets as at 31.12.
– Operating expenses and annual funding volume
– Number of programs or grants
– Typical project or funding volume
– Content focus
– Number of employees
– Number of members on the Board of Directors or Board of Trustees
It only takes about ten minutes to complete. The data in the statistics panel is only collected for statistical purposes. The data is not publicly accessible and is only evaluated in aggregated and anonymized form. The information on funding priorities shows potential partners in benchmarking and allows conclusions to be drawn about similar information.
3. receive individual benchmark
As soon as 300 organizations participate, the benchmarking will be activated. You will then receive an individual comparison report and find out where your organization stands in comparison to the sector. Once you have completed the statistics section, you will be informed by e-mail when the benchmarking is available.
The following information is displayed:
– Your assets compared to the assets of other organizations
– Your operating expenses or annual funding volume compared to other operating or funding organizations
– The number of programs or grants compared to other organizations
– The typical project or funding volume compared to other organizations
– Potential allies based on their focus areas
– Development potential due to their thematic focus
– The number of employees compared to other organizations
– The number of members on the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees compared to other organizations
Overview and in-depth classification
Benchmarking in the statistics panel gives you a comprehensive impression of where your organization stands in comparison – be it in relation to all nonprofits or funders, or in comparison with the 50 organizations that are closest to you thematically.
We are planning a comprehensive evaluation of the statistics panel for the second half of the year. With scientific support, the anonymized and aggregated data will be evaluated for interesting findings on current developments and potential in the sector.
